R.Y.I

According to the NIH, most substance abuse treatment admissions aged 18 to 30 with known age of initiation information, 74% began substance use at the age of 17 or younger and 10.2% initiated use at the age of 11 or younger.

With the increase in confusion, mental distress, suicidal ideations, and substance abuse in the world and culture we live in, we see a need to reach the youth now.

This is why we developed R.Y.I (Renewed Youth Initiative)

  • In this culture, our youth is inundated with information and opportunity to lead them down a dark and avoidable path.

According to Psychology Today, “the average high school kid today has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the early 1950’s”

There are several reasons our youth is struggling so much with stress, mental distress, suicidal ideations, and substance abuse.

*At Renew Clinic, we want to address these issues with the youth through storytelling and educational workshops:

    Topics include:

    • Peer Pressure

    • Education on the truth of what drugs do to the brain

    • Experiencing Pleasure Naturally (Sober-minded)

    • Connecting with Others and God (What is addiction?)

    • Culture/Family Dynamics

    • Social Media

    • Beliefs about who they are, purpose, etc.

    • How to Suffer Well

    • Depression/ Anxiety (normalizing this as a natural part of life and those who struggle with this are not alone)

    • Suicidal Ideations

    • What to do if they are experiencing these things

  • For parents, we do not always know what to look for and what to do if we find out our child is using. Many parents are also unaware of ways they can help keep their home more secure and what to be aware of when navigating their child’s care. We have put together a workshop to help shed some light on these issues:

    • Signs/Symptoms and what to look for if your child is using

    • Signs of drug use in the home

    • What to do if you suspect your child is using

    • Practical ways to secure your home and child

    • Common medicines parents should consider locking up or disposing of

    • If your child has surgery or is prescribed a controlled substance

    • The development of use to addiction

    • Risk factors

    • F.A.C.T.S (Family History, Age of First Use, Cravings, Tolerance, Surroundings)

    • ACEs

    • Dealing with suffering and pain

    • What to do if you discover your child is using substances (boundaries, expectations, rules, treatment)

    • Hot topics (fentanyl, marijuana, etc.)
